The Design Capital of the Netherlands

Eindhoven is a modern metropolis with a touch of a typical Brabantian ambience. Bustling with creativity and innovation, Eindhoven is considered the design capital of the Netherlands. Visiting the city can serve as a genuine experience of the city’s continuous creative evolution.

The Fifth Largest City

Eindhoven is the fifth-largest city in the Netherlands. It lies along the Dommel River, 68 miles (109 km) southeast of Rotterdam. From being a small village, it has developed into one of the biggest industrial centers in Holland. But such development wasn’t without several tribulations. The city experienced destructions and had to be rebuilt several times in its history.

Nonetheless, Eindhoven has grown into a big player in the global technical and industrial design scene due to the presence of Philips, a major Dutch electronics manufacturer, and DAF Trucks, a truck manufacturing company in the Netherlands.

Eindhoven Attractions and Destinations

Eindhoven’s major attractions include museums, churches, and parks. If you’re planning to enter a museum in Eindhoven, visit the Van Abbemuseum. It’s one of the most notable European museums for modern and contemporary art. Other must-visit museums in Eindhoven are the DAF Museum, PSV Eindhoven Museum (PSV Musée), and the Van Gogh Village in Nuenen.

Perhaps two of the best religious attractions in Eindhoven are Saint Catherine’s Church and Oude Toren. St. Catherine’s Church is a neo-gothic style Roman Catholic church that was built between 1861 and 1867. On the other hand, Oude Toren is a late medieval brick church tower, which was part of St. Peter church, a Brabantine gothic church constructed in the 15th century.

While Eindhoven is esteemed as a cultural and historical site, it also boasts scintillating green spaces perfect for tourists who are looking for ample room to relax.

If you’re a nature enthusiast, you can explore Genneper Parken, a park situated west of Stratum, close to Watertoren Waterleidingmaatschappij. Otherwise, you can also discover Genneper Watermill or the City Park (Stadswandelpark). Whichever you choose, Eindhoven will take you to its breathtaking and luscious natural environment.

Best Things to Do in Eindhoven

When you have a place like Eindhoven that’s bursting with creativity and historical wealth, you must be in awe just thinking of the things or activities that await you.

Whether you’re in for a one or two-day trip to Eindhoven, it wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the city’s famous museums and churches. Outdoor attractions also contribute to Eindhoven’s booming tourism. Nevertheless, immersing yourself in museum hopping or nature walking is nothing short of an adventure.
